CA f. 4 r: Digging machine

This drawing originally formed a single folio with the preceding one, on which the two machines were compared. The parallel between the two is intentional: the former one depicts a traditional working system that Leonardo considered slow and outdated; by contrast, this machine was explicitly designed by him to automate the excavation of a canal, reducing time and effort.
