Italy’s leading banking group, serving families, businesses and the real economy. Intesa Sanpaolo, as an engaged patron of Italian culture, is the Main Partner in the project Imagining the future.
Intesa Sanpaolo is Main Partner to the important Confindustria project that, from 20 June to 20 August 2023, will be bringing original pages from Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus to the United States for the first time, and specifically to Washington, DC.
The power of Leonardo’s legacy – especially his passion for in-depth scientific research, productive curiosity and boldness of thought, as well as his discoveries and artistic works, of course – continues to exert fascination over time and transcends national borders. No one more than Leonardo da Vinci, with his eclectic intelligence, engaged in such a wide range of studies – anatomy, astronomy, botany, chemistry, geography, mathematics, mechanics, aeronautics (the flight of birds), architecture – interests that can all be found in the Codex Atlanticus, the largest collection of his writings and drawings, preserved in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan.
In today’s complex world, Leonardo da Vinci should be a model and a source of inspiration – now more than ever before – for his depth of thought and tireless work for human progress through study.
This initiative is a fundamental step in the spread of knowledge of Italy’s identity and heritage – a process in which Intesa Sanpaolo, as the country’s leading bank, believes it can play a distinctive role. Leonardo himself was the first of the three great masters celebrated by the Triptych of Italian Ingenuity – along with Dante and Raphael – to whom the Accademia dei Lincei dedicated four fundamental exhibitions in 2019 on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death. In this same spirit, supporting this worthy new initiative to make Leonardo’s notebooks available to a broad international audience is an opportunity of profound significance and great value for our Bank.
